The AGM of EU Specialty Food Ingredients starts with an exciting presentation made by Rosanne Hertzberger, a microbiologist, columnist at NRC Handelsblad and writer of the book “An ode to E-numbers” (Ode aan de E-nummers). Her book is an ode to chemistry and technology within our food and shows in a sharp, humorous way how technology makes our food safer, more sustainable and healthier. At the same time, R. Hertzberger criticises the so-called ‘de-development’: the anti-technological attitude of thirty-year olds regarding inventions such as E numbers, genetic technology and vaccinations.
