2022-093rd International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste

EU Specialty Food Ingredients is pleased to support today the 3rd International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste, organised by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and celebrated each year on 29th September.

At global level, it is estimated that 14% of the world’s food is lost after harvest and 17% is wasted in retail and at the consumption level. On the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste it is essential to raise awareness about innovation & technologies that are critical to increasing the efficiency of food systems and to reducing food losses and waste.

Specialty Food Ingredients can provide tools and solutions towards achieving these goals of minimizing food loss and maximizing production efficiency, due to their effective impact during food processing and food storage. For example, specialty food ingredients play a key role in safely sustaining the desired taste and texture of a huge variety of foods, thus extending shelf life and helping to reduce food waste.
