EU Specialty Food Ingredients News

2023-06European institutions and processes explained to EU Specialty Food Ingredients members

Today, our team hosted a webinar on the European institutions and the most relevant procedures for our specialty food ingredients, as part of the federationā€™s training programme, which was attended by over 50 participants.

What does ā€œEESCā€ stand for[1]? Is Brussels the actual capital of Europe[2]? And what, on earth, is comitology[3]? All these questions, and many others, were addressed in this well-attended webinar, showing our membersā€™ keen interest in the European Union and its functioning. As the implementation of the Farm to Fork strategy shall climax in the coming months with the adoption of a proposal for a legislative framework for sustainable food systems and as the European elections are slowly approaching, our members do wish to know about the EU, both as business operators and citizens.

EU Specialty Food Ingredients organises study visits in Brussels on a regular basis and todayā€™s webinar was designed as an introduction to a visit of the European Parliament and the Commission planned on 10th October.

[1] European Economic and Social Committee.

[2] In practice, we could say it butā€¦it is more complicated than that !

[3] The official definition (see here) is: ā€œComitology refers to a set of procedures, including meetings of representative committees, that give EU countries a say in implementing acts.ā€ But we strongly advise you to watch the recording of our webinar to understand how it works (accessible to members only).
