2024-01TAKING STOCK OF THE FARM TO FORK STRATEGY: REFLECTING, RETHINKING, REBUILDING

Mr. Geert Maesmans, the President of EU Specialty Food Ingredients, presents our sector’s views at an event organized by the European Food  Forum and Europe Jacques Delors. The event aims to assess the progress of the Farm to Fork strategy.

Nearly four years after the European Commission published its Strategy, a key component of the Green Deal to transform the European agri-food sector, this event evaluates the proposed and implemented agri-food policies under the Farm to Fork Strategy and related strategies. Speakers and attendees discuss the drivers, challenges, and obstacles in successfully implementing green initiatives. They also explore how the EU can overcome obstacles hindering the transition to more sustainable practices in the agri-food sector. Additionally, they consider the European Commission’s next steps for the “Farm to Fork” ambition and the priorities for the next legislative period.

Mr. Maesmans participates in a panel moderated by Pascal Lamy, Vice-President of Europe Jacques Delors, following the keynote speech titled “Farm to fork: reflect, rethink, rebuild” by Geneviève Pons, Director General and Vice-President of Jacques Delors Europe.

This event provides an opportunity to explain the role of specialty food ingredients in a sustainable food chain and emphasizes the importance of a legislative and policy environment that fosters innovation in the European Union. Mr Maesmans’ speaking notes are available here.
